Boardworx (or Whitstable Windsurfing if you remember the old days), has officially gone solar
When Mark first got in touch with Creative Low Carbon, the objective was straightforward. Reduce the cost of running the business. Like many commercial premises, electricity was one of the largest overheads and rising energy prices were not doing him any favours.
After reviewing the site and usage profile, we designed a system built for serious daytime demand. The installation features a 15kW three phase SigEnergy inverter paired with 37 high efficiency Aiko 485W panels, delivering just under 18kW of peak generation. That gives Boardworx strong on site production during trading hours, when it matters most.
For a business like this, solar makes perfect sense. Most of the energy is used during the day, which means a high percentage of the generation is consumed on site rather than exported. That is where the real savings are made. Instead of buying electricity from the grid at commercial rates, Mark is now generating a large chunk of it from his own roof.
This is why battery storage wasn't included in this installation, as the vast majority of the usage is in the daylight hours. After a comprehensive case study, battery storage just wasn't a justifiable expense.
The three phase setup ensures the system can comfortably handle the building’s heavier loads without constraint, while still leaving headroom for future expansion if required. It is a robust, scalable solution designed around how the business actually operates.
The result is simple. Lower operating costs, greater energy independence, and protection against future price volatility. Boardworx is now producing clean electricity right where it is needed, turning unused roof space into a long term asset.
This is what commercial solar should be. Practical, financially driven, and built around the numbers.
